Menstrual Cups

Menstrual Cups

Our Range of Menstrual Cups

One cup on the shelf, picked because it's easy to use and easy to look after.

Reusable menstrual cup

A soft cup that you fold to insert, sitting lower than a tampon and holding your flow while it's in place. It suits you if you're tired of restocking every month, or if you want something you can swim and sleep in. The cost stops after the first one, which is most of the appeal.

Through the day you take it out, tip it into the loo or basin, rinse it and put it back. How often depends on your flow, so you'll settle into your own rhythm within a cycle or two. Follow the instructions that come with your cup for how long it can stay in.

Between cycles, wash it with warm water and a mild unscented soap, then let it air dry fully before it goes back in its pouch. The same habits apply across the shop, andhow to clean and store your toyswalks through them.

If you use lubricant to help it in, keep it water-based. Silicone lube can degrade silicone.

Menstrual Cup FAQs

The questions that come up before a first cup.

What are the disadvantages of a menstrual cup?

The real ones are practical: there's a learning curve, and emptying it away from home takes a little planning.

  • Insertion takes practice. The first cycle or two can be fiddly while you find the fold and the angle that seals properly.
  • Emptying means clean hands and somewhere to rinse. In a public loo, a small bottle of water or a wipe covers it.
  • It asks a bit more of you than binning a tampon, because it needs a proper wash and a full dry at the end of each period.
  • Removal feels awkward until you get the knack of breaking the seal before you ease it out.

Once the fit is right, most people find they think about their period far less. This isn't medical advice, so if something hurts or doesn't feel right, see a doctor.

How do you know when a menstrual cup is full?

You usually can't feel it, so go by timing and by the first hint of leaking.

A cup that has reached capacity starts to seep, and that's your signal to empty it. Better to empty on a schedule than to wait for that: morning and evening as a baseline, more often on your heaviest days and less often as things taper off. After a cycle or two you'll know roughly how long yours lasts.

Check the instructions that came with your cup for the maximum wear time and stay inside it, even on a light day.

How do you use a menstrual cup?

Wash your hands, fold the cup, insert it low and let it open so it seals.

  • Wash the cup before first use, and wash your hands every time you handle it.
  • Fold it. A simple C fold works for most people, while a punch-down fold makes the tip smaller going in.
  • Sit or squat, or stand with one foot raised, then guide the folded cup in at a slight angle towards your back.
  • Let go so it springs open. Run a finger around the base to check it feels round, or turn the cup once to help the seal.
  • To take it out, relax, pinch the base to break the suction and ease it down. Tip it out, rinse it and put it back.
  • At the end of your period, wash it well and dry it fully before it goes into storage.

If it leaks or you can feel it sitting there, it usually needs to go in at a slightly different angle. Try another fold next time and give yourself a cycle or two to get used to it.
