Waterproof ratings

Product pages show a waterproof rating so you know how wet a toy can get before you rinse it or take it near water. Here is what the common labels mean.

  1. Splash proof / water-resistant

    Fine for a wipe or a light splash near the buttons. Not for baths or showers.

    Clean with a damp, soapy cloth. Keep charging ports and seams dry.

  2. Strong spray protection

    Handles a stronger spray of water from any direction. Still not the same as full submersion.

    Good for rinsing under a tap if the brand says so. Skip long soaks in the bath unless the product page also says waterproof or IPX7.

  3. Waterproof / fully waterproof

    Built for short submersion. You can rinse it fully under the tap or use it in the bath or shower.

    IPX7 usually means up to about 1 metre of water for up to 30 minutes. Dry the charging port before charging, and follow any brand notes on the product page.

When a product page does not clearly say waterproof or give an IP rating, treat it as splash proof and wipe rather than dunk. If you are unsure, check the manual that came in the box.
